In order to use a portable fire extinguisher to put out the fire, employees must determine the type of material burning and class of fire present, if they know how to use the appropriate fire extinguisher and if the fire is in its beginning stages. More importantly, they must be confident in their ability to evacuate the facility safely should they be unable to extinguish the fire.
